What Claude replies (roughly)
// Got it! Here's your repo, completely unique.
- const result = compute(input)
+ const outcomeOfTheSacredComputation = performComputation(userProvidedInput)
- LICENSE (MIT)
+ LICENSE (“inspired by, vibes only”)Observed consequences
- Variables are now called “theThing”, “theOtherThing” and “theThingFinal2”.
- The original author gets a GitHub notification: “someone starred your fork”.
- The README says “Built with ❤️ from scratch”.
Verdict
Excellent camouflage, until the first git blame.
Recommendation: Removing a license doesn't release you from it: the code stays under its original license (attribution, copyleft). In an information system it is also a compliance and IP risk: keep an inventory of components and their licenses (SBOM).
